Hong Kong - A 77-year-old chess player was hospitalized after squabbling with his opponent during a game in a Hong Kong public park, police said Monday. The dispute broke out over a move in a game between a 60-year-old man and the 77-year-old in a park Sunday morning in the city's North Point district.
The older man was pushed to the ground as the row escalated and then called police, who interviewed both men. The 77-year-old was admitted to hospital for treatment, but no arrests were made.
Public parks are popular places for the elderly to play games such as chess and mahjong in densely populated Hong Kong, where most people live in cramped, high-rise apartment blocks.
CALGARY-BORN CHESS PATRON CHANGES GEARS!
Belzberg Technologies Inc. (BLZ-T)
From a high of almost 12 dollars a share in 2006, Belzberg Technologies has been spiraling down since then and has just hit a mere 80 cents a share as of Friday 13.
Sid Belzberg served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Belzberg Technologies Inc. from 1993 to December 29, 2008. Mr. Belzberg also served as the Chairman of the Board of Belzberg Technologies Inc. from 1993 to December 29, 2008. Sid was removed from those positions on December 29, 2008, but continued to serve on the Board of Directors until he and his life-partner, Alicia, resigned on June 5, 2009.
Clearly relations had been souring for a long time, paralleling the declining share price. Those institutional investors who bought into the company when the stock was high have lost virtually everything. The financial crisis and declining earnings have made things worse. No one is to blame.
The Belzbergs have long since sold all of their shares of Belzberg Technologies.
This week third quarter results were released on the 11th in a conference call, and the news was not very good. Total revenues for the third quarter, including pass-throughs, decreased 26% to $8.2 million versus $11.0 million in the same year ago period. The net loss was $2.4 million as compared to a net loss of $0.3 million same quarter last year. Excluding non-cash foreign exchange translations the net loss was $1.2 million as compared to a net gain of $0.1 million in the same quarter last year. Diluted loss per share for the third quarter was $(0.16) per share as compared to a loss of $(0.02) per share in the same year-ago period.
Since the release of the third quarter results the price per share has plummeted from 96 cents to 80. Next week worse is feared.
In May of this year Sid Belzberg was installed as a member of the Board of Directors of Coretec. On September 30 the company announced that Sid had resigned from this position ''for personal reasons.'' As of Friday 13, the stock price (CYY; to) was 0.165 dollars per share. Two years ago the stock was valued at about 1.40 dollars.
It appears that Sid Belzberg's days as a serious businessman are over...however, Sid has been very successful as a collector: of rare coins (one of the most prized coin collections in North America) as well as in HOTWHEELS.
Sid Belzberg's adult life comes down to this??
Did you know that the world record set for the highest price for a single HOTWHEELS was in excess of 70,000 dollars! GO GET THEM SID!
More later this week!
